Jerusalem is one of the strongest tourist brands in the world. It offers a combination of history, going back thousands of years, cultural institutions, tourist sites and cultural event – international tourism. Lately there has been a significant growth in the number tourists coming to Israel in general and to Jerusalem in particular. 2010 was a record breaking year for tourism in Israel; about 3.5 million tourists visited Israel and about 2.7 million of them visited Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Development Authority operates in the framework of a strategic, multi-year plan for the development of tourism as an impetus for growth in the city centers of Jerusalem. It aims to maximize the economic potential of tourism and to create new employment opportunities; the plan includes the developing of cultural and tourism “products”, infrastructures and marketing tourism in the city.
